Brydges family.
James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos (1673-1744): British statesman and patron of the arts. During the War of Spanish Succession he served as Paymaster General for the Forces. His son Henry inherited the dukedom and some of his father's posts. The 3rd Duke of Chandos, James Brydges (1732-1789), was a prominent Whig politician and courtier. In 1777, he married Anne Eliza (Gamon) Elletson, the daughter of Richard Gamon and widow of Roger Hope Elletson, Governor of Jamaica (1766-1767).
