Tyree, John A. (John Augustine), 1911-2004
John Augustine Tyree, Jr., was born October 3, 1911, in Blackstone, Virginia. He served as Assistant Naval Aide to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 and 1945. He commanded the Seventh Fleet Logistic Support Force, in Sasebo, Japan, from 1958 to 1960. Tyree died on April 8, 2004, in La Jolla, California.

John Tyree was born in 1911 in Blackstone, Virginia. He was a 1933 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as Assistant Naval Aide at the White House to Presidents Roosevelt and Truman and subsequently served as Commander, Submarine Squadron Six and Commander, Service Squadron Three prior to being selected to flag rank. As a flag officer his assignments included: Commander, Submarine Flotilla Two; Deputy Commander, Submarine Force, Atlantic Command; Commander, Naval Forces, Korea; Commander, South Atlantic Force; Assistant Chief, Naval Operations; Chief of Staff, United States Forces, NATO; and Inspector General, U.S. Navy.
