Park naturalist.
Jerry De Santo was born in Duluth, Minn., on 6 May 1928. He joined the Air Force in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a B.A. in 1956 and an M.A. in 1958 in central European history. He finished his dissertation work in Italian history at the University of Colorado at Boulder but refused the degree. He joined the National Park Service as a ranger in 1965 at Yellowstone Park and shortly thereafter transferred to Glacier National Park where he worked as a naturalist until he retired in 1987. In 2000, De Santo was struck with encephalitis and has been in convalescence since then.
