McNeil, John, 1853-1940
John McNeil was born 2 March 1853 in Coatdyke, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He emigrated to America in 1876 with his family and attended school, graduating as a mining engineer. He became the first state inspector of coal mines in Colorado and later set up his own business, becoming a consulting engineer in Denver, Colorado.
