Biography of Phil Dike

Phil Dike is a native to Southern California; he was born in Redlands, California. He taught art to artists at Disney studios and students from the Brandt-Dike School of Art and Scripps College. He was a professional watercolor painter, muralist and an animator for Disney Studios. He coordinated such Disney animated films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 and Fantasia in 1940. His art work is displayed in many museums, art galleries, private collections and at Scripps College. He was a founding member of the California National Water Color Society, which became later the National Watercolor Society (U.S.). He corresponded with Disney studios, gallery from around the United States, Lamar Dodd from the University of Georgia, California watercolorists Rex Brandt, Millard Sheets (who was affiliated with the Claremont Colleges), and Clarence Hinkle, as well as personal letters to his family from Europe.
