The group was originally known as the Student Homophile League of Cornell University, and subsequently as the Gay Liberation Front, Cornell Gay Liberation, Gay People at Cornell, and then the Cornell Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Coalition. The Coalition is now an umbrella group including Cornell Lesbian, Bisexual and Questioning Women (formerly Cornellesbians) and GBLOC (Gays, Bisexuals and Lesbians of Color).

The Student Homophile League was founded by Jearld Moldenhauer. Early leaders included Janis Kelly, Robert Roth, Janet Hadda, and Pauline Layton.
