The Pollock Family included Sir Frederick Pollock (1783-1870), 1st Baron Pollock of Hatton, lawyer and Attorney-General; his brother, Field Marshal Sir George Pollock (1786-1872), 1st Baron Pollock of the Khyber Pass, commander in the Afghan campaign of 1842; and Sir Frederick's son, Charles Edward Pollock (1823-1897), an eminent lawyer. Other family members represented in the collection include Elizabeth Alexander (fl.1829-1858), Sir Frederick Pollock's niece by marriage, William Frederick Pollock (1815-1888), 2nd Baron Pollock of Hatton, eldest son of Sir Frederick Pollock, and Fanny Homera Pollock (fl.1833-1862), daughter of Sir Frederick Pollock. Arthur Powell of Clapton (d.1894) was grandfather of Ethel Powell, the wife of Robert Pollock, Charles Edward Pollock's fourth son.
