Tacoma Land Company.

Hide Profile

Organized in 1874 by C.B. Wright and associates of Philadelphia, the company purposed to acquire lands at Tacoma necessary for the new townsite. Claiming ground under public land laws, donation land claimants and settlers owned the main part of the townsite, which was in turn purchased by NP. The company was managed as a separate and distinct corporation by Mr. Wright through his representative in Tacoma, thereby excluding NP from any part in its management. The company went into receivership in 1899 and was reorganized in 1900 as the Tacoma Land and Improvement Company. NP received bonds and stock in the new company for its interest in the old company.
