Kimberly Ann Northland was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on February 22, 1980. She attended Iowa State University with a major in fine arts and received a BFA (2004). During the spring semester of 2003, Northland enrolled in an independent study course, ART IS 329, under the supervision of Mary Stieglitz, Professor of Art and Design. This collection contains Northland's finished project for the final photographic problem (#7) of the class. Her concept was to explore how light reflects off Iowa State University campus buildings. Northland focused mostly on Kildee Hall and the Design Center, but there are images of several other campus buildings. The finished product includes selected black and white prints, contact sheets, negatives and reference material. She had four prints that were accepted into the 2004 Focus Show at the Memorial Union.
