Established as the Industrial Extension Division in Providence, R.I. in 1942. Two years later it was replaced by the Division of General College Extension which was renamed the College of Continuing Education (CCE) in 1981. In January, 1996 the College moved from the Barnard School building to its new home in the former Shepard's Department Store Building in downtown Providence. In 1998 CCE was renamed the University of Rhode Island Feinstein College of Continuing Education.
