Irene Halvorsen was personal secretary to author Isobel Osbourne Field.
Isobel Osbourne Field's mother, Fanny Van de Grift, married Robert Louis Stevenson. She lived in Samoa with her family for the last four years of Stevenson's life and served as his amanuensis. She and her brother, Lloyd Osbourne, collaborated on a book about their life in Samoa, Memories of Vailima.
