Sloan (b. 1887) was head of De Camp and Sloan, Inc., a manufacturing firm in Newark, New Jersey from 1908-1925. From 1927-1964 he taught economics and sociology at a number of colleges and universities, including New Jersey State Teachers College, New York University, and Columbia University. He was executive director of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for Economic Research and Education from 1936-1945.
