First Ecclesiastical Society organized in Windsor, Conn., by Rev. John Warham in 1639; in 1754 split into two factions over the location of a new building but was reunited 30 years later as First Congregational Church; then reorganized as First Church of Christ and later became First Church in Windsor; considers itself the oldest continuous Congregational society in North America; joined United Church of Christ in 1961.
