Edward Payson Jones of Winsted, Connecticut, was born in Barkhamsted and attended local schools and the Williston Academy in East Hampton, Mass. He was chariman of the Conferece of Examining Boards of Embalmers of the United States and was also the first secretary of the State Board of Examiners of Embalmers. In 1897 he purchased the Winsted Steam Laundry which he operated for fifty years. His wife was Frances Isabella Bronson Jones. Their son Roderick B. Jones was a patent attorney in New York, later retiring to the family home in Winsted. His law partner, Philip Brown, appears to have been a life partner as well. Roderick earned undergraduate and law degrees from Yale and a doctorate in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in both World War I and World War II. Frances Isabelle Bronson Jones' father Merritt Bronson married Mary Janes Bissell, the sister of Dr. Charles R. Bissell (who married Anna Henn).
