The Board of Jewish Education (New York, NY) started in 1910 as the Bureau of Education. In 1917, the organization was renamed the Bureau of Jewish Education. In 1940, the Jewish Education Committee, founded in 1917, absorbed the Bureau of Jewish Education. During the same year, the Jewish Education Committee also absorbed the Jewish Education Association, founded in 1921. In 1970, the Jewish Education Committee changed its name to the Board of Jewish Education.
