The shop started initially as B & J Merchandisers in early 1963 on Compton Boulevard in Compton, California, selling books, clothes, tools, and other items. The bookshop moved to various rented locations early on, but by November of 1988 the brothers had moved the bookshop to a former mortuary on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. The Weinsteins were active in the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) and in the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA). In addition to selling rare and antiquarian books, the Heritage Bookshop also sold autographed letters, artwork and illustrations, and modern first editions. After 44 years in business, the Heritage Bookshop was closed in August of 2007. The entirety of the Heritage Bookshop reference collection was donated to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at UCLA. The majority of their stock has been sold in a series of auctions in New York by Bloomsbury Book Auctions.

The shop started initially as B & J Merchandisers in early 1963 on Compton Boulevard in Compton, California, selling books, clothes, tools, and other items. The bookshop moved to various rented locations early on, but by November of 1988 the brothers moved the bookshop to a former mortuary on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.
The Weinsteins were active in the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) and in the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA). The bookshop entertained quite a few famous clients, including those from the entertainment and music industries.
After 44 years in business, the Heritage Book Shop was closed in August of 2007. Ben Weinstein continues business in an office at the Pacific Design Center under the Heritage Book Shop name. The entirety of the Heritage Book Shop reference collection was donated to the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at UCLA. The majority of their stock has been sold in a series of auctions in New York by Bloomsbury Book Auctions.
