Betsy (nee Reilly) Lewin was born May 12, 1937, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. She received her Batchelor of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute of Art in 1959. In 1963, she married fellow author and illustrator Ted Lewin. Their love of the outdoors led them to travel all over the world. Incidents from her travels have inspired many of her books for children. She has self-illustrated as well as illustrated a number of titles by other authors. Booby Hatch, which she both wrote and illustrated, grew out of her experiences in the Galapagos Islands.Source: Something About the Author. Vol 90:149-152.
