McMichael, J. R. (James Robert), 1835-1893

James Robert McMichael (1835-1893) was a Confederate officer who served with the 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment. He was captured at Spottsylvania, Va., in 1864, and imprisoned at Fort Delaware, Del., Morriso Island, S.C., and Cockspur Island, newar Savannah, Ga.

James Robert McMichael, Confederate soldier, physician, farmer, and Georgia legislator, was born 20 April 1835, near Talbotton, Georgia, and died 30 April 1893, in Buena Vista, Georgia. He enlisted (1861) in the Marion Guards (incorporated with the 12th Georgia Infantry, Company K) and eventually became a captain (1863). McMichael was at 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Spottsylvania, where he was captured; he was imprisoned at Fort Delaware, Delaware (May 1864 - June 1865). He studied medicine after the war, farmed, and served one term (1886-1887) in the Georgia legislature.
