Susan Terris is a novelist and a poet. Among her awards are the New York Times Outstanding Children's Book citation (1973), Library of Congress Children's Book of the Year citation (1981), ALA Notable Best Book for Young Adults (1987), a Junior Literary Guild Selection (1982), Commonwealth Club of California Silver Medal Book Award (1987), British Booksellers Feminist Fortnight (1988).

Susan Terris was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1937. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College and M.A. from San Francisco State University and her career has centered around her work as a novelist and poet. She has written numerous books for children and young adults, many of which have won prestigious awards. In her books she explores the borderland between safety and danger and the pivotal moments of the lives of young women.
