Michael Miley, known as "General Lee's photographer" served in the Stonewall Brigade; opened a studio in Lexington, Va., in 1866; photographed all the faculty, classes and athletic teams at Washington Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute; in partnership with his son Henry after 1895. Early experimenters with carbon [color] photography, Miley & Son patented a process in 1902 and were awared a medal of merit by the Franklin Institute in 1905.
