Bragdon, Sara Frances, 1886-1957
Sara Frances Bragdon was born May 3, 1886, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Merritt and Elizabeth (Byerly) Bragdon. She attended Evanston public schools and graduated from Evanston Township High School. In 1905 she entered Northwestern University, studying there for one year. After transferring to Lasell Seminary at Auburndale, Massachusetts, for the years 1903-1905, Bragdon returned to Northwestern. She graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, with a bachelor of arts degree in 1908. Bragdon's chief academic interests centered on Classic, French, and English Literature. She served, in 1909-1910 and again during the years 1916-1918, as an assistant in Northwestern's Romance Languages department.
Bragdon married Louis Caulton West, a member of Northwestern's class of 1905, on November 13, 1920. The couple had one daughter, Barbara. Bragdon died on May 10, 1957.
