Louisiana. Militia. Saint Tammany Regiment.

Governor Moore activated the Louisiana State Militia in September 1861. All men from eighteen to forty-five years of age were required to report for duty; local "home protection" groups were folded into the militia. The purpose of the militia was to protect against an invading Union army, to police the slave population, and to enforce mandatory militia service.
