Martenet, Jefferson, b. 1828.

Jefferson Martenet, emigrant to the California mines in 1852, spent about two years in Jacksonville, then went to San Francisco where he opened a book stand in 1855. He became a clerk in 1857 in the Antiquarian Bookstore, owned by his friends Epes Ellery and Augustus Doyle. From 1866 to 1867, Martenet was associated with Dr. T.W. Brotherton, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, in the publication of the Pacific churchman, official newspaper of the Episcopal Diocese in California. After 1867, Martenet engaged in a collection agency business.
