Julian Burroughs (April 14, 1878-December 15, 1954), son of famed naturalist John Burroughs, is noted as a landscape painter, writer, photographer, architect, and farmer. Eduactaed at The Riverview Academy and later at Harvard, Julian moved back to the land where he was raised (West Park, NY) to build a house and provide for his family. Julian held a variety of jobs while his wife Emily raised their three children. In his later years, Julian spent his time writing about and photographing his rural surroundings, lecturing regularly for The John Burroughs Memorial Association, and writing his memoirs.
