Immanuel Lutheran Church (Silverton, Or. : 1892-)

Hide Profile

Ten families gathered together on November 10, 1892 in Silverton to establish Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. O. R. Sletten was called to be the first pastor. Services were held in temporary quarters for the first six years. The church was constructed in 1898 at the present location. The original building was dismantled in 1915, and the center portion of the new building was constructed. A new pipe organ was supplied through a grant from the Cargegie Foundation. The lot adjacent to the church was purchased in 1928 and a parsonage was constructed. A parish house was added in 1947. Nationally known architect Pietro Belluschi was engaged for the project. On May 30, 1975 a fire completely destroyed the church. Again with the help of Pietro Bellucshi, a new facility was designed with 30,000 square feet of floor space and a sanctuary seating 500 persons.
