The Red River Transportation Line was organized in 1872 by James J. Hill and Norman Kittson to operate steamboats and barges on the Red River of the North. It was formally incorporated as the Red River Transportation Company in 1874. Steamboats operated by the company includes Selkirk, International, Alpha, Dakota, Cheyenne, Moorhead, Pluck, Grand Forks, and H.W. Alsop. The company ceased operations around 1902.
