Knight, Stephen Herrick, 1862-1939

Stephen H. Knight was born in Salem, Mass., Oct. 31,1862, son of Edward H. and Mary (Russell) Knight; graduated from Harvard,1883, and from the New York Homeopathic Medical College in 1886. He came to Detroit in 1898, was the first house surgeon of Grace Hospital, chief staff surgeon until 1923, and then chief of staff and consulting surgeon until his death. Knight was one of the founders of the American College of Surgeons, chairman of the World War l Medical Advisory Board of Michigan. In 1890 he married Elizabeth Gifford. He died Feb. 9,1939.
