Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Shoreline, Wash.)

Hide Profile

Persons interested in organizing a new congregation in the Lake City area met in the Fire Hall in September of 1952. In October of that same year the first worship service was held in the Hamlin Park Elementary School. The congregation was officially organized on May 24, 1953 with 66 charter members present. Its first pastor was Rev. Russell Luke, who confirmed the first confirmation class in June of 1954. Soon the women’s group, the men’s group, and the choir followed. The congregation has always had an active Sunday School. Soon the first sanctuary on the present site was built. The congregation grew rapidly and within a year the church was holding three worship services each Sunday as well as Sunday School. It was determined that new facilities should be built to meet future needs. On January 2, 1966 the new sanctuary was dedicated and three years later a new fellowship hall. At the beginning of 1984 there were 1578 baptized and 1184 confirmed members at Prince of Peace.
