Henk Pander worked at JPL in December and January 1987-88 and then again in August 1988. In the winter he did a number of watercolors at the Spacecraft Assembly building of the construction of the Galileo Spacecraft, some of which are owned by the NASA Art Program, and some of which are still in his collection. One is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Then in August the artist returned to JPL and made large watercolors of the Solar Thermal Vacuum Test of the Galileo Spacecraft. A number of these are also in the NASA art collection. Based on those watercolors he did a major oil painting of the Solar Thermal Vacuum Test which was reproduced in "NASA and the Discovery of Space" in the section on Planetary Science. At the end of that stay at JPL, on his own, Henk went to Goldstone and did the watercolors there, one of which is in the JPL Library. As a result, he also made a large oil painting which is in his collection.
