Andrew L. Lucas was born in Ironwood, Mich. in 1924 and enlisted in the Army at Los Angeles, Calif. in 1943. At the time of his enlistment he had completed four years of high school and was unmarried. Lucas joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. and was assigned to Headquarters of the 1st Battalion of the 86th Infantry Regiment. He was transferred to Camp Swift, Tex. and then to Italy where he served in Company K of the 86th and Companies F and G of the 85th Infantry Regiment. Lucas attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star medal for his actions at Cappla Di Ronchidos Hill 1027 in February 1945. He was also wounded in action at Marzola Hill in April 1945.
