Fred A. Leistritz (1891- ) was born in Illinois and moved to the Sandhills area of Nebraska with his parents in 1907. He homesteaded his own property in 1914, and moved back to his parent's original homestead near Lakeside, Nebraska, in 1917, where he continued ranching until his retirement. He was elected to the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1983.
