Dr. Agnes M. Allen was born in 1901 at Normal, Illinois. She received her B.ED from Illinois State Normal University (1924); M.A. from Colorado State Teachers College (1925); Ph.D. from Clark University at Worcester, Massachusetts (1937). Dr. Allen joined the faculty of Arizona State College in 1934 and began teaching in the college elementary school. In 1947, she became the head of the science department and later founded the Department of Geography and Public Planning. She also served as dean of women on campus during a period in the 1950s.
Dr. Allen was a member of many social and service organizations, including the Shakespeare Club, American Association of University Woman (AAUW), Arizona Education Association, Delta Gamma Omicron, Kappa Delta Pi, and Theta Epsilon. In 1975, Dr. Allen was proclaimed Citizen of the Year by the Arizona Daily Sun . She passed away on February 12, 1995.
