William Augustus Bringhurst was born 29 September 1863 in Salt Lake City to William Augustus Bringhurst Sr. and Selinda Dolby Palmer. He married Martha Ann Grainger (1866-1955) on 29 January 1866 and they had twelve children. He worked in the railroad telegraph office at Milford and taught school at Minersville, Toquerville, and Rockville. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California from 1897-1898 and died in Pocatello, Idaho on 22 July 1936.
