Ernest Bourner Allen received the A.B. from Olivet College in Michigan in 1895 and the B.D. from Oberlin Theological Seminary in 1903. Olivet and Oberlin awarded him honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees in 1907 and 1923, respectively. Allen was pastor of Washington Congregational Church, Toledo, after leaving Oberlin, and pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church, Oak Park, Illinois, from 1918 until his death in 1931. Allen held many administrative positions within the Congregational church and authored numerous articles on religious subjects.
