Brenneman, Franklin R.

Brenneman came to Alaska in 1900 and staked a claim on Kodiak Island. Eventually, he went to Katalla where he invested in the first oil well. He met Anna Helen Petersen in Katalla and married her a short time later and they had four children. In 1907, he became a U.S. Marshall at Katalla and later was head marshal for the Third Judicial District in Valdez, a position he held until 1922. He died in 1940 in Long Beach, California. Mr. Brenneman was a childhood friend of Thomas R. Marshall who went on to become Vice President of the United States under Woodrow Wilson.
