Brooks, Obed, -1882
Variant namesHarwich (Mass.) businessman Obed Brooks, Jr. was born in 1809. He married Clementine Guidon (d.1847) in 1836; his second wife was Susan Dodge of Harwich. Worked in business in Boston (Rand and Brooks) and later managed Brooks family store (Obed Brooks and Co.) in Harwich until 1856. Cashier for Bank of Cape Cod (1856-1865), treasurer for Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank (1856-1880), Harwich town clerk and treasurer (1852), Commissioner of the Mashpee Indians (1852), and postmaster of Harwich (1854-1858). Boston businessman Henry Cobb Brooks was born in 1824. He managed the commission agency H.C. Brooks and Co. He died in Boston in 1886.
