Hide Profile

In August 1970, faculty at Western Washington State College (now Western Washington University) formed an unofficial chapter (Local 2084) of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

The National AFT was founded in 1916 to represent the economic, social and professional interests of classroom teachers. Primary issues of concern for the Local 2084 chapter were salary policies and reductions in the faculty work force. In Feburary 2006, the United Faculty of Western Washington (UFWW) became the exclusive union and collective bargaining agent for Western faculty. The UFWW is an affiliate of the United Faculty of Washington State, the National Education Association, and the American Federation of Teachers.
