Guardian Media Group (GMG) is a multimedia business which owns the Guardian and the Observer national newspapers, as well radio stations, magazines, websites and B2B media.The Group has been wholly owned by the Scott Trust since 1936.
The company was established in 1924 as the Manchester Guardian and Evening News Ltd (MGEN Ltd) when CP Scott, the owner and editor of the Manchester Guardian, purchased the Manchester Evening News from Russel Allen. The company was renamed Guardian and Manchester Evening News Ltd (GMEN Ltd) in 1973; and it became a plc in 1982 (GMEN plc). In November 1993 it changed its names to Guardian Media Group plc (GMG).
