Born to Estelle and Edward Lang in New York City, Herbert H. Lang (1921-2006) served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, receiving his PhD in history in 1954. Lang taught at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, New Mexico, until he became a faculty member at Texas A & M University in 1956. He authored an introduction to Pat Nixon of Texas: Autobiography of a Doctor as well as articles on the Western U. S. frontier and mining industry.
