Rev. Gerald B. Winrod was a minister of the Christian Missionary Alliance and a publisher of the magazine The Defender. Winrod was indicted in the District Court for the District of Columbia on July 21, 1942 for conspiracy to violate Section 9 of Title 18, U.S. Code, and Section 33 of Title 50, U.S. Code.

The case was brought to trial but halted by the death of the presiding judge which caused a mistrial to be declared. The indictment was subsequently dismissed. The dismissal was upheld by the Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on June 30, 1947.
