Brookings Civic League (Brookings, S.D.)

Hide Profile

The Brookings Civic League was founded in 1912 to promote civic improvement in the city of Brookings. While civic improvement remained central to their mission over the years, other areas also received attention, most notably women's suffrage. Involvement in women's suffrage led to the formal affiliation with the General Federation of Women's Clubs in 1914. The League also founded the Brookings Chapter of the American Red Cross. In recent years, the League has become mainly social in nature, although they do regularly donate money to the South Dakota Art Museum.
