The High Council of Commonwealth Public Service Associations was formed in 1915 to promote cooperation between staff associations on matters affecting Commonwealth public servants. It was reconstituted as the Council of Commonwealth Public Service Organisations in 1969 and in 1975 changed name to the Council of Australian Government Employee Organisations. CAGEO merged with the ACTU in 1983, becoming its Australian Government Employment Section.
