Fred McKay succeeded John Flynn as Moderator-General of the Presbyterian Church in Australia (later Uniting Church). The Australian Inland Mission (later Uniting Church Frontier Services) was one of the Church's operations.

Fred McKay was a patrol padre in the Australian Inland Mission, 1935-1941, and worked with Rev. John Flynn during the transfer of Aerial Medical Services and Pedal Wireless Network to Flying Doctor Service (1936-1939). Succeeded Flynn as Superintendent of A.I.M. (1951-1973) and became Moderator-General, Presbyterian Church of Australia, 1970-1973.
