Ballas, William E. 1916-1943.
Lt. William Ballas, a native of East Chicago, Indiana, joined the US Army in fall of 1941, after serving in the United States Marine Corps. Soon after completing officer school, Ballas was with the first American infantry troops to land in North Africa, where he was killed in action April 29, 1943. He is buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.
