Saron Lutheran Church (Hoqiam, Wash.)

Hide Profile

Sunday School began in the Hoquiam area one year before Saron Lutheran was officially organized in 1908 by Rev. J. A. Levin. A Ladies’ Aid was organized in 1908 and a young people’s group in 1912.

Services were held in Swedish in the Union Church until the congregation moved into a church on 4th Street. English services were introduced in 1922, but in 1938 it was resolved to have one service each month in the Swedish language.

The present property was purchased in 1926. Ground was broken in 1927 and the building was completed in 1929. Saron and Trinity Lutheran of Aberdeen shared pastors from 1935-1944. Three members from Sharon have entered the ministry.

Saron Cooperative Pre-School began in 1971 and is still active. It once was cited a “model” pre-school by Grays Harbor College.
