Henry Woods (1868-1952), palaeontologist, was born at Cottenham, near Cambridge, on 18 December 1868. He attended the higher grade school in Cambridge before entering St John's College in 1887. Woods joined the Department of Geology in 1892 as demonstrator in palaeobotany. He became demonstrator in palaeozoology in 1894, and was lecturer in palaeontology, 1899-1934. Following his retirement, he remained the departmental librarian until over eighty. He died at Meldreth, Hertfordshire, on 4 April 1952.
