McCaleb, E. Howard, 1897-1978
Variant namesE. Howard McCaleb Jr. graduated from Washington and Lee Law School in 1919 and was admitted to the bar in 1920. He practiced in his father's law firm (1920-1924), was assistant United States attorney for the eastern district for seven months in 1925, and served as judge of the Court of Appeals for Orleans Parish (1936-1941). McCaleb served on the Louisiana Supreme Court as a temporary member (1941-1943), associate justice (1947-1970), and chief justice (1971-1972).
