Ladies' Reading Club

The Ladies' Reading Club was organized in 1885 as the first women's club in Houston. Its members engaged in intellectual study by preparing and presenting papers at club meetings. They assumed strong leadership in establishing Houston's first public library and have continued their support of the library system through the years. The Club is still in existence after 107 years.
