Charlene Conklin served as an Iowa General Assembly representative from 1967 to 1968 and then as a senator from 1969 to 1972. Conklin is perhaps best known for being a key figure in the legislative struggle for the liberalization of abortion rights in the early 1970s. After leaving office, Conklin was involved in the restoration of Terrace Hill, the governor's mansion.
