Dr. Ramon Powers received his first two academic degrees from Fort Hays State University and taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City while receiving his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After graduation he taught at the Haskell Indian Junior College for a few years before joining the Legislative Research Department under the Kansas Legislature. In 1988, Dr. Powers became the Executive Director of the Kansas State Historical Society, in which position he remained for fourteen years. He retired from his position with the KSHS in 2002.
